These Gurugram students are targeting Summer Paralympics 2024
Take any inspiring story of a student mentor and mentee and it will show you how project-based learning in academics can transform lives. And one such instance is that of Jayati Gogia, a class 11 student, who is also the captain of Pathways School Gurgaon’s swimming team. She is mentoring special needs student and Paralympics athlete Natasha Dempo, her junior, from class 6.
Jayati has worked on an ePortfolio about challenges faced by Paralympic athletes. She says, “It’s an ePortfolio, which is an individual learning project of IB MYP (International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme) curriculum demonstrating how learning experiences and engagements are documented.”
Natasha shares, “Jayati’s knowledge on ePortfolio, as a student, helped me bond well with her and learn the finesse of swimming.”
With the help of Jayati, Natasha won a bronze medal in Paralympics Swimming Championship 2017 held at another school and also qualified State Para Trials in October 2018. However, she’s unable to participate in the nationals this year as she is below the age of 12.
“We are focused on improving timings, learn new strokes and represent Pathways School at the nationals in 2019. Our joint goal is to have Natasha represent India at Summer Paralympics 2024 to be held in Paris, France,” says Jayati.
