Existence, life, and human form are not mere subjects at Meandering Journeys, an exhibition in the Capital, which brings together Delhi-based painter and sculptor Renuka Sondhi Gulati and San Franciscobased photographer Kaushik Amruthur. Through her artworks, Renuka hopes to add to the conversation around nature and the urgency to conserve it.

“I have always been in love with nature. Everything that is going around in the world affects an artist, too. And one has to be sensitive in what one is doing,” says the artist, who is inspired by poet William Wordsworth.

The exhibition will feature more than 20 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and photographs. While Renuka merges contemporary style with surrealism in her paintings, themes such as relationships and compassion take centre stage in her bronze sculptures. As for Kaushik, architecture features as a prominent subject in his photographs.

Renuka says, “I try to experiment by doing something fresh and new, by bringing nature and human beings together. In the artwork ‘Where should I go’, the tree is speaking to the human being, asking ‘where should it go?’ as everything is becoming a concrete jungle. We are trying to clear forests and creating a concrete world for ourself.”

On her collaboration with Kaushik, she says, “I like how he has captured the landscapes of native America. I liked the play of colour, light, and perspective he has shown in his works. And he also does art photography. So, we both thought of doing an exhibition together.”
