Manikarnika actor Mishti wants to focus on Hindi films
Actor Mishti Chakravarty has expressed displeasure with the way her character, Kashibai, turned out to be in the recently released film, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Despite being unsatisfied with her part, she is happy with the way the film has been received by the audience, and she hopes to do more substantial work.
“That people are enjoying Manikarnika, is of course satisfying. As an actor, what else I could have asked for... just that I expected something more out of my character, Kashibai. All my significant scenes got replaced by insignificant ones, that later Kangana [Ranaut] re-shot. She’s very sweet on the face till she gets her job done. She told me she wants to make my character meatier. Now I know what all that love was for,” says the actor, adding that next time on, she will be very careful about her role.
However, Mishti is not letting the disappointment deter her from taking up more films and she is making sure that going forward she chooses the right project. Asked if she is open to taking up work in the digital space, she cuts in, “it’s only Hindi films on my mind right now”, though she is keeping her options flexible.
“I haven’t really thought about web series. If something interesting comes my way, I might give it a shot, but I’m not consciously trying for it. My focus is on films right now, and I mean Hindi films. I have quite a number of offers from South film industry — some are too good to say no to — but I’ve decided to concentrate on Bollywood,” says Mishti.
Apart from South Indian films, Mishti has got offers from Bengali film industry as well. Interestingly, she started her career with Porichoi, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, which never released.
