-

On the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami yesterday, ace film-maker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra launched the trailer of his upcoming directorial Mere Pyare Prime Minister. The film tells an endearing and inspirational story of the relationship between a mother and a son. The movie revolves around an eight-year-old boy, who writes a letter to the Prime Minister regarding the problems surrounding the topic of open defecation in the area he resides. The trailer of the movie has left a lasting impression as it showcases the real-life story of people living in the slums. The music of the film is given by Shankar-EhsaanLoy and lyrics have been penned by Gulzar. A song dedicated to welcoming Holi, the festival of colours, will be featured in the movie. Hence, the makers decided to launch the trailer on Basant Panchami as it marks the beginning of the Holi season.

“Seven years ago, while I was returning from the shoot of one of my films near Filmcity in Mumbai at 4 am in the morning, my car turned around the corner and the headlights bathed a dozen of women, who were defecating on the roadside. I was embarrassed, shocked and stunned. Under the glare of the car headlights, the women hurriedly got up pulling their saris down, water containers in their hands. The image stayed in my subconscious and affected me mentally. That’s when I knew I wanted to further dig into their lives and one day present their story to the nation,” says Mehra.

Producer Dr Jayantilal Gada of Pen India Ltd, shares, “Mehra has always explored stories that are rooted in nature dealing with issues affecting the nation. What drew me to this subject was the honesty that the child had in his plea and how he wants to tackle this issue which is being faced by people staying in slums.”

Presented by Dr Jayantilal Gada of Pen, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and PS Bharathi, the film stars Anjali Patil, Om Kanojiya, Makarand Deshpande, Rasika Agashe, Sonia Albizuri, Nachiket Purnapatre and Atul Kulkarni, and is set to release on March 15, 2019.
