Actor Tisca Chopra feels Indian cinema is entering a golden phase as women have started getting their due in terms of roles. “Now is the best time to be in Indian cinema. We are entering into a golden period. Female actors are dominating our industry. Look at films like Veere Di Wedding, Raazi and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi .... all are womenoriented films,” says Tisca.

Adding “time has changed now”, she says, “Filmmakers have started making strong roles for women.”

“There is a huge shift in our industry. Earlier, the audience used to go to cinema halls to see heroes onscreen, now they go to theatres to watch our powerful heroines.”

Tisca, whose Bollywood debut was Platform (1993), made a name for herself with power-packed performances in projects such as Taare Zameen Par (2007), Firaaq (2008), Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost (2013), Ghayal Once Again (2016) and the TV show 24. She even stepped into the producer’s shoes with a short film Chutney (2016) for which she received a lot of praise from both critics and audiences.

The 45-year-old is now co-hosting a show that aims to spread awareness about crime. Such shows are the need of the hour, she says, adding, “It shows what human beings can do, which is beyond one’s imagination. It is necessary to create awareness among youth and to help them to deal with vulnerable and uncertain situations in life.”
