First-time father, actor Freddy Daruwala is ‘reliving’ his childhood with his newborn son
There is a new addition in Freddy Daruwala’s family and he can’t stop gushing about the same. The actor and his wife, Crystal Variava, welcomed their first baby, a son on February 3. Calling it the “most exciting phase” of his life, Freddy feels that he’s reliving his childhood with the baby. And he adds that he’s wary of the fact that he is “now going to get less attention in the family”. All set to take over daddy duties, Freddy’s prime focus will remain the well-being of his wife, who has her hands full with the baby. Excerpts:
How has life changed after the arrival of your baby?
I’m just getting used to the fact that I’m going to get less attention now. Somebody has come to steal my thunder (laughs). But we’re all so excited. Everybody told me that our life will change after the baby and that it will bring a different energy. It’s now that I truly understand that. I’m reliving my childhood. There’s more than changing nappies and staying up till late.
So, what kind of daddy duties are keeping you busy?
I’m the papa bear. I’m looking after my family, making sure that my wife is very well taken care of — that’s my priority. She, as a mother, is looking after the kid, so my job is to be there and look after my wife.
Have you thought of a name yet? Well, Parsis have a thing that only the bua [father’s sister] gives the name to a newborn. We’ve shortlisted a few names — two we really like. So, now we’re waiting for my sister to come and choose the final one.
As a father, how will you ensure a normal upbringing for your son in this age of paparazzi culture?
Of course I want to shield my baby. I’m not comfortable with exposing my child to all the paparazzi stuff that’s going on. Also, I don’t want any special attention being given to him. I want everyone to treat him just like any other child.

Which all star kids we might see your baby having play dates with? I’m currently figuring out who all have babies. I should first be friends with them and then we can definitely arrange for play dates. I wouldn’t mind that.
