‘YOU DO THINGS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE SHAPED YOUR LIFE’

And when she does it in the form of a film, Aditi Rao Hydari doesn’t think much about the result

Her last release Daas Dev (2018) tanked at the box office and while the initial feeling was of disappointment, actor Aditi Rao Hydari soon came to terms with it. And though Aditi admits that such failures do make her wiser about the kind of films she chooses, she is quick to add that it doesn’t mean she regrets being a part of Daas Dev.

“It was a film that was done three years ago, and its release kept getting delayed because something or the other would happen. Finally when that happened, we were all happy and were expecting a mixed response,” Aditi explains.

“At the same time, I also believe these ups and downs are a part of our profession, or for that matter, every profession — even of life in general,” adds the actor. The 32-year-old adds that another reason she wouldn’t like to count this film as one of her mistakes is because she can never say no to director Sudhir Mishra.

“He gave me my first proper break with Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011) and that film changed the course of my career. He believed in me when probably no one else did. These are the things that you must remember in life,” the Wazir (2016) actor continues.

“Sometimes you do things for someone who has played an important role in shaping a part of your life... someone who is your teacher and mentor. You join that person in their journey without thinking much about the outcome… When the film’s promotions were on, I was shooting for Antariksham and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (both 2018) and had to shuttle between sets. But I didn’t mind that,” she says.

Now back to Hindi films after a short break, Aditi maintains that she will keep collaborating with industry peers she loves and looks up to. “That won’t change. Now when I’m busy working in south films besides being in talks for two Bollywood films, I’d still try to make time for important people like [Sudhir Mishra] in my life. Whatever I can, I would do with all my heart and love. And whatever the result is, I will take it in my stride and move on,” says Aditi, who stars in Psycho, V, and Dhanush’s next.
