Link between allergies, sinusitis and the common cold

-

Do you have a cold or an allergy attack that just wouldn’t go away? If so, there’s a good chance that you actually have sinusitis. Most cases of acute sinusitis start with a common cold caused by an allergy, which is the inherent susceptibility to disease. Repeated colds inflame the mucous lining of sinuses, the air chambers in the bone behind your cheeks and eyebrows.

According to Dr SPS Bakshi, the tendency to frequently catch cough, cold and get sore, painful throat if not treated properly gets converted into chronic tonsillitis, adenoiditis, sinusitis and finally suppression with strong medicines lead to bronchitis and breathing problems. If you have allergic rhinitis (repeated attacks of sneezing) you can develop episodes of acute sinusitis. Allergic rhinitis, caused by humidity, cold air, alcohol and perfumes may further complicate into sinusitis. Besides, if you have asthma, that is an allergic disease or nasal polyps (small growths in the nose), again chronic sinusitis may be the root cause for it.

A stuffy nose during the common cold may confuse the simple nasal congestion with sinusitis. A cold, however, usually lasts for about seven to 14 days and gets relieved without treatment. Acute sinusitis often lasts longer and typically causes more symptoms than just a cold. Pain or pressure in some areas of the face (forehead, cheeks or between the eyes) is often a sign of blocked sinus drainage. Other symptoms may include a stuffy nose, nasal congestion, post nasal discharge and an ache in the upper jaw.

Take homoeopathy, which is the safer and effective way of not only relieving symptoms but also for improving immunity and saving you from graver illnesses. Some of the commonly used homoeopathic medicines for sinusitis are:

■ Kalium Bichromicum 30 – Pressure and pain at root of nose, violent sneezing, profuse watery nasal discharge, chronic inflammation of frontal sinus with stopped-up sensation.

■ Mercurius Solubilis 30 – Pain and swelling of nasal bones, with greenish foetid ulceration. Coryza, with sneezing; sore, raw, smarting sensation.

■ Bakson’s Aller Aid Tablets – Runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes and sinus congestion. Take 1 tablet, three times a day.

■ Dr Bakshi’s B#22 Sinus Drops – Helps relieve thick/ watery discharge from nose, recurrent sneezing, stuffy nose, headache especially in sinusitis. Take 10-15 drops in half cup of water, three times a day along with Bakson’s Aller Aid Tablets in acute phase.

All the medicines are to be taken under the supervision of a Registered Homoeopathic Medical Practitioner Only.
