‘There’s more to PM Modi that can be explored’

-

Movies made on true events, chapters from the past, and on the lives of personalities isn't new in Bollywood. And in some cases, we see more than one project on the same subject. The recently-announced one-hour film, Mann Bairagi, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life, is a case in point. The film comes after Omung Kumar’s PM Narendra Modi starring Vivek Oberoi that came out earlier this year.

“When there is interest around a particular incident or a person, there are many who plan to make films, and documentaries around it because real-life stories make for interesting narratives. There were about five movies on Bhagat Singh, three adaptations of the Battle of Saragarhi,” says Omung on what lures filmmakers to make films on the same subject.

Talking about this new film on the PM’s life and if viewers are keen on watching multiple films on the same subject, Omung says, “In the end, everything depends on which one is going to convince the audience. As far as the new film on PM’s life is concerned, I’ve also read about it. The makers are focusing on different aspect of his life and the storyline seems to be quite interesting. In any way, it’s difficult to narrate the journey of a man who has achieved so much in just two hours. There’s so much more that can be explored. So when that’s the approach, it generates interest among the audience.”

The director also shares that he has been getting requests from fans to make a sequel to the Mary Kom (2014) biopic.

“I’ve thought about it because Mary has won many more accolades in the recent past, after the film released. There’s a lot more that can be explored now. But what if the second part does not create as much impact as much as the first part did? Also, we need to do it with the same actor and there are several other things that are concerned… So, for now I’ve dropped the idea. If things work out in future, I might do it,” he ends on a positive note.
