Annu Kapoor is only getting better with age, more so when it comes to his comic timing. His performance in the recently released Dream Girl has garnered him all the praise. But not many know that when it comes to giving his nod for a project, the 63-year-old is very particular that he sticks to the criteria he has set for himself. “I primarily look for the content or the role offered to me and then comes the money part. There is hardly any change in my approach to selecting or refusing a project,” says the veteran actor, who was also seen in Khandaani Shafakhana this year.

To be seen next in Rumy Jaffery’s film Chehre, Kapoor feels that the biggest challenge in keepi himself relevant in today’s times, is to find good work. “Unfortunately, most of the time, I am offered mediocre roles. But I can’t go on refusing them, so in order to survive, we all manage,” he shares. He might have delivered a remarkable performance in films such as Mr India (1987), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Vicky Donor (2012),Jolly LLB (2017) among others but Kapoor rues that he never got the due he deserves.

“Life didn’t offer me many choices, so whatever I could do, I tried to do it with honesty and sincerity, although I could never get due credit for my deeds. I’ve done a variety of roles, bulls**t roles also where I shot for 50 days and didn’t have a single dialogue (laughs), but that’s a part of life,” says Kapoor referring to his movie Elaan-E-Jung (1989) starring Dharmendra and Jaya Prada. Asked what’s the hardest part of being an actor in today’s time, Kapoor laughs, “One has to be physically fit more than being creatively talented (laughs). But on a serious note, we produce film stars rapidly than real artists, hence the definition of an actor has changed drastically and, so has the approach to the work.”
