Jasmin on why she shifted from films to TV: I wanted to take a step forward in my career
With her eyes set on pursuing a career in acting, Jasmin Bhasin who started off as a model and is now a popular TV actor, reveals that her initial plan was to work in Bollywood. However, before that could take off, she started getting offers from the south Indian film industry. And she made her acting debut with Tamil film Vaanam (2011). Few years into the industry, Jasmin decided to explore Hindi television and starred in Tashan-E-Ishq. At a time when actors are changing gears from TV to films, Jasmin did the opposite.
“I always wanted to work in Hindi films and TV. But when offers from south came my way, I decided to go ahead with them and can’t be more thankful for the opportunities,” she continues, “That experience honed my acting skills. But then I decided to explore TV and shifted to Mumbai. This time I was lucky as Tashan-e-Ishq happened and the show changed the course of my career and made me a household name overnight.”
On what made her take up work on the small screen despite being a part of southern films, Jasmin says it was the reach that tempted her. “TV industry is huge, so I decided to take a step forward in my career. With just a press of a button, we can reach everyone’s household and it’s intriguing how our lives, stories, soon become that of the audiences. The kind of love one gets is unmatched,” she says, adding that contrary to the notion, TV requires a lot more effort in comparison to other mediums.
“Shooting for daily shows is another task altogether. There’s so much that we do in just a day, perform different emotions, characters, change our looks... Within a short span of time we do a lot more,” she says. Does she miss being seen on the big screen? “I don’t. For an actor, medium shouldn’t matter. Also, what’s there to miss? I can still do films in Bollywood and even in south. Being in the same profession, I’ll eventually do that,” she signs off.
