Performer, you want to explore them all. I love comedy. How can anyone not enjoy making people laugh?

After the 2018 hit, Veere Di Wedding, actor Shikha Talsania will next be seen in the remake of a 1995 hit film, alongside actors Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan. The actor says, “It’s great to have films that make you laugh, dance, sing along and feel happy.” Excerpts from an interview with her.
How crucial is your role in your next project?
Every character in every story is crucial, whether that character has lines or not. Having said that, Sara and I play sisters, and my character in the remake definitely has a fun spin from the original.
How was the experience of working with Varun and Sara? Varun and Sara wear their hearts on their sleeves, and you can see that in every character they play. It’s fun to work with them. They bring great energy on set. It’s a blast to collaborate with them.
Working in which genre makes you feel most comfortable? Do you enjoy doing comedy?
I enjoy all genres. As a What advice have you received from your father Tiku Talsania on playing comic roles?
He told me that it’s all about reacting. Don’t play to the gallery, play to the truth of your character.
Do you get the same stereotypical roles?
Don’t all actors get stereotyped? Sure, I do, but it’s such a wonderful time to be a creator. There are well rounded and nuanced stories, and nuanced characters being born.
Would you want to step out from playing ‘heroine ki dost’ characters?
As an actor, you want to explore all the possible characters, even the ones that haven’t been thought of yet. This question should be asked to writers, casting directors and filmmakers, because it’s they who decide.
Is stardom important to you? If it helps monetarily and helps in a steady flow of newer characters to explore, then sure. Making an impact with my work, be it small or big, that is what’s important to me.
What’s the challenge in bagging roles in this phase of your career?
I haven’t really thought about it. I’m doing what I always did — keeping my head down and working hard, having fun and meeting some great creators along the way.
