-

Emmy-award winning actor Jodie Comer is in talks to join actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in revenge thriller The Last Duel.

The film, being directed by Ridley Scott, is based on Eric Jager’s book, The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France, according to the hollywoodreporter.com.

It recounts a real-life revenge drama about the last legally sanctioned duel in France, and follows a man who goes to war and returns to discover a friend of his has raped his wife. When no one believes the woman, the soldier appeals to the king of France and says he wants to fight a duel to the death to decide the man’s fate.

If the talks go well, Comer will play the role of the French soldier’s wife.

The script is co-written by Nicole Holofcener, Damon and Affleck. The project will be coproduced by Scott Free Productions and Damon and Affleck’s Pearl Street Films.

Earlier this month, Comer took home an Emmy in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, for her portrayal of the cunning assassin Villanelle in the show Killing Eve.

She bested out Emilia Clarke (nominated for Game of Thrones), Viola Davis (nominated for How to Get Away With Murder), Laura Linney (nominated for Ozark), Mandy Moore (nominated for This Is Us), Sandra Oh (nominated for Killing Eve) and Robin Wright (nominated for House of Cards) to register the win.

“I cannot believe I’m in a category alongside these women, one of them who is my co-star, Sandra Oh. Sandra, safe to say this has been a whirlwind. I’m lucky to have shared the whole experience with you,” she said in her acceptance speech, and gave a shout-out to her parents in Liverpool.

The actor had also thanked director Damon Thomas, who has overseen seven episodes of the series, for encouraging her to “take risks and above all, have fun”.
