Actor Sonakshi Sinha has just delivered a big hit with Mission Mangal, which also starred Akshay Kumar, with whom she has had an impeccable box office record so far. Her movies with Akshay, including Rowdy Rathore (2012) and Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty (2014), have been successes earlier.

Apart from that, Sonakshi has also been part of masala potboilers such as the Dabangg franchise, alongside Salman Khan. And at the same time, Khandaani Shafakhana and Lootera (2013), both not run-ofthe-mill fares, also figure in her filmography. How did she escape being tagged as just a commercial or masala film heroine, since she had done so many such films right in the beginning of her career?

“I am still a very commercial heroine,” she reasons instead, and adds, “I don’t think I will ever lose that tag. People even approach me for lead protagonist or female-driven films because they see commercial value in me, a kind of viability. They see that I am bankable.”

The 32-year-old says she got to reach more people through her commercial and masala films. “Initially, the so-called masala films gave me the reach I have today, and that in turn gave me the courage and strength to take up a film on my shoulder. Every film I have done has had a very important part to play in my career and where I have reached as an actor today. I have absolutely zero regrets, I have learnt from each and every film,” says the actor, who will next be seen in Dabangg’s third installment.

There’s always that competition that one faces from the contemporaries. And when some of their films perform better, one is bound to feel insecure. Sonakshi, however, doesn’t feel the heat of the competition as she is doesn’t care much for it. She says, “I am not at all interested in what anybody else is doing. There is too much on my plate, too much work at any given point of time, to concentrate on anything else. That’s how I have always been. Even in school I was like that. I would just focus on what I have to do. I enjoy this. I feel that is what has gotten me so far. I am not worrying about what others are doing but concentrating on what I am.”
