Secret behind Angad’s fitness: His dad’s training

- Shreya Mukherjee

That Angad Bedi is a fitness enthusiast goes without saying. The actor hails from a sports background and his fitness is rooted in years of discipline. And his father, former cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi, is the one to be praised for inculcating these values in him since childhood.

As Angad effortlessly shifted from playing a cricketer in Inside Edge’s second season to an army officer in the Gunjan Saxena biopic, he made sure that he worked on his fitness, accordingly, to suit both the characters. More so, since both the projects required him to ace his physical act.

Attributing his fitness to his lifelong discipline towards sports, Angad says, “Being an athlete, I know how to work on my core strength. The reason why I was able to do very physically draining parts was because my body allowed me to do so. Both the characters required drastically different physique. And it was not much difficult for me to achieve them because agility is my strength.”

On where he got it all from, Angad reveals how his father would train him. The 36-yearold says, “My dad used to make me run a lot and would say, ‘10 chakkar lagao, clockwise and then anticlockwise’. My base fitness has always been on the higher side. It is depends on 5 Ss — speed, strength, skill, stamina and suppleness.”

“The skill bit is not restricted to a sport alone. Sometimes, it can be implemented in your fitness regime in how skillfully you adapt yourself to the new forms of fitness you require to make your body change according to your characters,” the actor says.

“I have always been aware of my calories, making sure I burn off what I eat. I always go back to the basics — running — and that’s fundamental mantra of fitness for me,” he adds.
