Actor Boman Irani, who has essayed the role of a professor and a doctor in his films, feels that education is essential for the younger lot as well as the older people.

The 59-year-old actor who played the role of a dean in a medical college in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003) and a principal of an engineering college in 3 Idiots (2009), says “I feel that education is so important for youngsters today but it is also important for people who are old. People who are older, with changing times, seem to gain experience but don’t seem to be learning anymore.”

The actor recalls his school days, saying. “When we turned three years old, our parents would send us to schools. We got educated and that was the end of it. Today, my experience with education is with my grandchildren.” Boman, who’s a grandfather, says that things have changed drastically. “When my grandson was born, we went into the room to congratulate my daughterin-law. We hugged and kissed the baby. My daughter-in-law told my son, ‘Tomorrow, go and register.’ And, I said, ‘Yeah, for the birth certificate.’ But they

said, ‘No, for school’. On the day that the child is born, they have to start worrying about registration at a good school, then of course they will worry whether their child will get 98.4 per cent in the 10th grade or not... how sad is that. Your child’s career is decided whether he gets 98.4 or 95 percent, and 94 seems to be a disaster these days,” he elaborates.

The actor also emphasises on the need for good education. “Good education, good new techniques of learning, innovations are the order of the day, I think,” he sums up.
