She is a product of the digital boom, having made a name for herself with the series Permanent Roommates. And Nidhi Singh feels the superior content on the web and the audience’s reception to the medium should be like a warning for Bollywood filmmakers that they can’t get away with bad content.

“The stakes are higher now. You have to make better movies and you can’t get away with bad films. People just won’t show up and you can’t do anything about it. Last year and the year before were clear indicators. So many big films didn’t work,” she says.

Nidhi has also tried her hand at films. She starred in Dil Juunglee last year and says, “I don’t think the craze for films should go. I came into this world of entertainment because of my love for films. I am a complete movie buff. It is not a joke to get people out of their homes to the theatre and watch what you are selling.”

Despite her film, the actor hasn’t bid adieu to the web medium. She recently starred in M.O.M. - Mission Over Mars. Talking about why the OTT medium has been so well received by the audience, Nidhi says, “The audiences are so smart and evolved now. They are not at our mercy for entertainment. It [web] has great content, great writers and great artists, all collaborating together.”

And Nidhi wants to do more films and is inspired by the kind of work that Alia Bhatt and Taapsee Pannu are doing. “The shift is happening in the film industry and it is very palpable. The stories are no longer about the hero and action sequences and girls looking pretty. The female characters are also adding value to the story. Having said that, even though there are good roles for female actors, it is still not equal,” she shares.
