Uniqlo opens its doors to Indian shoppers
The Japanese global apparel retailer, Uniqlo opened its first store in India, at Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj.
Launching in this market for the first time, the brand will offer a new shopping experience to its customers. LifeWear, Uniqlo’s fashion apparel, is designed to meet the requirements of one’s daily lifestyles. Tadashi Yanai, president and CEO of Fast Retailing Group of which Uniqlo is a subsidiary, said, “In the years ahead, we aim to enhance lifestyles in India by offering more innovative apparel that draws on the nation’s distinct culture and traditions. We wish to contribute to India’s economic development in the process.”
The store carries a full lineup of clothes for men, women, kids and babies. This includes iconic Uniqlo products such as the innovative and functional Ultra-Light Down (ULD) and HEATTECH garments, as well as products featuring premium fabrics like denim, cashmere and extra fine merino. Spread over three floors and with a total retail space of 35,000 square feet, the store welcomes its customers with its three-story high bay window façade.
Special partnerships are on display throughout the three floors, such as The Kurta Collection; the brand’s first Indian collaboration with a Delhi-based designer, Rina Singh. Global collaboration lines include Ines de la Fressange, Hana Tajima, and the Uniqlo U collection created by the Uniqlo R&D centre under artistic director Christophe Lemaire. The store carries the UT (Uniqlo T-shirt) lines including collections such as Kaws, Edo Ukiyo-E, Mickey art and many more, thus allowing customers to create personalised t-shirts with their own designs or with a range of Uniqlo stamps, including designs featuring tennis legend and the brand’s global ambassador, Roger Federer. As part of Uniqlo’s commitment to India’s community and culture, the store opens under the Together in LifeWear campaign that demonstrates how the brand’s simple, highquality and comfortable daily wear brings people together. Uniqlo will be offering special promotional discounts this weekend.
