There is no failure, you either succeed or you learn: Vikram Bhatt
The pursuit to make different films has been the driving force for filmmaker Vikram Bhatt who loves experimenting with genres — whether it is horror, murder mysteries, or erotic love stories. But that, he says, has never built a pressure on him to come up with something new every time.
“I love my audience. I’m like that mother who wants to make a different meal every time for the child to enjoy. I always think what can I do next and that is my driving force,” says Vikram.
Some of his films worked really well at the box office, while many of them drew a mixed response. But that hasn’t stopped him from experimenting.
“Sometimes I’m successful, sometimes I’m not. I don’t think there is any such thing as failure. I just think that you either succeed or you learn. I think I have learnt a lot and the audience has taught me a lot. But that is not going to stop me from making different things. I always think that it is better to fail forward than to succeed backwards,” the filmmaker explains.
Flops haven’t deterred him from staying away from runof-the-mill projects. “I refuse to join the bandwagon of the usual,” shares Vikram, who is coming up with yet another horror movie, Ghost.
His only concern when it comes to filmmaking is to not disappoint his loyal audience. “I have my own set of loyal audience that likes to watch my films. My biggest concern is that they should not feel disappointed by my film and that’s why I make films keeping in mind my target audience,” he says.
Looking at the kind of films being made these days, Vikram says, “The industry is going through an excellent phase of filmmaking. Films are doing so well these days. We have had more hits than we have ever had. Filmmakers are doing a fabulous job and it’s obvious that it’s not the stars that are behind the success of it. Content is king.”
