I won’t agree for a blink-and-miss role just because it’s for a film: Dalljiet

Opportunities for actors are aplenty given the rise of web platforms, but what makes Dalljiet Kaur happiest is how artists are increasingly putting in a lot of thought before taking up work. Perhaps that’s why good content is being created across platforms — TV, films and web, hence blurring the divide between mediums.

“Earlier, actors only talked about trying their luck in films hoping to get good work because they’d get hit by monotony [on TV]. I know some actors still talk about it but now, they also have web to look forward to,” she says.

While the 36-year-old feels these are better days for TV content, she’s glad that actors aren’t shying away from taking a break because they want to be associated with good work. “I think actors across platforms are only concentrating on substantial work... And that’s motivating makers to come up with better stories,” she says.

Dalljiet’s tryst with showbiz began soon after winning a beauty contest in Pune. After doing small roles in shows, she played the lead in Kulvaddhu. “Those shows commanded an audience of their own. But with changing times, viewers are looking for quality more than ever,” adds the actor, known for shows such as Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? and Kaala Teeka.

Besides TV, Dalljiet has recently dabbled in the web space with BOSS: Baap of Special Services. Calling the experience “outstanding”, she says, “Web shows are shot and presented in an interesting way. There’s no pressure of daily telecast or competition. One can take time to better the product. Also, since stories are crisp, characters are meatier, and so they get noticed.”

The actor is now looking forward to a big screen experience. But she’s in no hurry. “Doing films would be a dream come true. But I won’t agree for a blink-and-miss role just because it’s for a film. The character should have something for me as an actor and also for the audience to feel connected to. After having done such interesting shows on TV, one can’t make such compromises,” she concludes.
