Can’t give life’s remote to anyone else: Ekta Kapoor on marriage
Be it televisions, films or web platforms, producer Ekta Kapoor has always backed content that is bold in nature and resonates with the audience. While she continues to shine on the work front, one thing that Ekta often gets asked about is her personal life and why she has not thought about marriage yet. Breaking silence on all these concerns, the 44-year-old says she’s in a happy space and doesn’t understand how marriage is considered the only thing for personal happiness.
“Till now, people ask me ‘when are you going to settle down in life?’ I don’t know how much should I achieve more to feel settled down. I think it’s considered that women have to find someone to sort themselves out. In my own personal life, I’ve been told many times that ‘this career is okay but you’ll have to get married to find personal happiness’,” says Ekta, who became a single mother and welcomed a baby boy (Ravie Kapoor) via surrogacy in January this year. She named him Ravie Kapoor after her dad Jeetendra, whose real name is Ravi Kapoor.
Ekta further asserts that one’s happiness can’t be decided by other people. “It has to be decided by me. If I have to get something for myself, then I have to be responsible for it and not another person. I can’t give the remote of my life to anyone else. If I have to buy myself shoes or clothes, I have to be responsible for it. It’s time we tell our girls that. “Asked if there has been any point in her life when she felt deprived, Ekta says, “All of us have had moments where we wanted to buy something [but could not do so]. Also, we’ve been conditioned in a certain way... to believe that one day a Prince Charming will come in our life and he will raise our standard of living.”
