#AllIsFineWithMe: Self-love takes the world by storm
From catwalks featuring plus-sized models to airlines ditching make-up norms for hostesses, a growing number of bodypositive initiatives worldwide are encouraging women to celebrate their unfiltered selves. The ongoing Lotus Make-up India Fashion Week has also featured at least one model, not adhering to the stereotypes.
“More and more people now understand the fact that one does not have to look or behave in a particular way to walk on the ramp. Shows at fashion weeks have at least one plus-sized model and one skinny model, for every show speaks volumes about how sensitised people have become,” says stylist Eshaa Ameen.
Stylist Akshay Tyagi, however, wants this movement to create a bigger stir. “It’s all great to see that so many people are aware about this movement, and are making sure that others also take a note. I just wish that these movements can do something beyond just creating a sort of virality, and serve a larger purpose,” he says.
In an example of sorts, thousands of Russian women are riding a new wave of feminism, and are posting selfies with their pimples, cellulite and hair loss, to challenge beauty stereotypes. Teenage Instagram influencer @Tysya, whose real name is Natalia Zemlianukhina, asked her 1.2 million followers to post photos of themselves without make-up with the hashtag #SoMnoyVsyoTak or #AllIsFineWithMe. “Beauty standards destroy the lives, self-esteem and health of girls. This project is something that cannot be kept silent (sic),” she wrote on Instagram.
