Chandan waiting for that one hit that he has eluded him

Box office collections are an important metric for an actor’s career, and who better than Chandan Roy Sanyal to understand that? In a career that spans more than a decade, Sanyal is yet to see an out-and-out hit. His latest, Jabariya Jodi, which starred Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra, didn’t meet expectations either. And the actor is definitely concerned.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t do well, it’s hurtful. None of the films that I have done in the last nine years has been a superhit or made ₹100 crore. I am merely surviving... have just been around. My last three films — Manto (2018), Jab Harry Met Sejal, and Chef (2017), didn’t do well… that way, I have been unlucky,” the actor rues.

However, Sanyal says that he continues to put in his best and hopes that things will sort out. “I try hard and give everything in my system. People who have seen my films, appreciated my work. I wish those films had done well. That would have probably helped me in some way,” adds the actor, who has been a part of projects such as Jazbaa (2015) and F.A.L.T.U. (2011).

Chandan recently produced and directed a short travel film. Despite commercial success eluding him, the actor looks at the positive side. “I am yet to see a successful film in 10 years, that’s incredible — for an actor to have not given any hits, but I am still surviving. My fingers are crossed, my day is yet to come. That film is somewhere in the horizon, the hit which I have not got,” the 39-year-old signs off.
