I’m more than just a pretty face, says Amyra Dastur

When actor Amyra Dastur’s first two films Issaq (2013) and Mr X (2015) bombed at the box office, she was more or less written off by the industry. All the more because the 26-year-old actor shifted her base to the southern film industry and did Tamil and Telugu films such as Anegan (2015) and Manasuku Nachindi (2018).

“People wrote me off after two of my films flopped. But I got good offers from South where I played major parts. A lot of people forgot that I ever existed in Bollywood,” says Amyra, who was last seen in this year’s Prassthanam and is now gearing up for her next Made in China, which stars Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy.

It was her film Rajma Chawal that changed a lot of things for the actor.

“I was labelled as just another pretty girl. But when Leena Yadav (Rajma Chawal’s director) asked me to shave my head, I actually managed to break that stereotype. I’m pretty and can act as well. I’m not just there in films to show a pretty face. I’m not just standing in the background and doing songs. That was the biggest learning experience because I was so scared of being labelled like that,” Amyra says.

Though her journey has been full of ups and downs, Amyra is kept her calm. “For me, it is all about my next move and something I look forward to.Those nerves have come down. My skin has become really thick. I started laughing at funny criticism and what haters say. I genuinely laugh it out. OTT platforms have brought a lot of good work,” she adds.

She is currently focussed on Made in China and will also start a new project for the web in November.
