Fashion is about feeling great in what we wear and the looks we love and being confident in whatever you wear. Women come in all shapes and sizes, but how does one determine which pattern or silhouette is flattering for our specific body type? It all boils down to using fashion to accentuate your best features. Layered tops and dresses, sleeveless or strapless and jackets suit this body type the best. The key is to give your body curves definition by shaping the midriff and highlighting the neckline and the shoulder. Just like Radhika Apte, Cameron Diaz, Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley, boot-cut denims, peplum and offshoulder tops, pleated skirts and big belts should be your wardrobe’s best friends. Women with such athletic bodies can pull off almost anything. They can opt for the entire spectrum, ranging from casual, chic, oversized dressing to something form-fitted, grunge or exquisite and glamorous. what would flatter it the most is not something people adhere to. Playing by the strength of your body type can help you carry the look with ease and confidence.”

One need not necessarily follow rigid rules, but rather guidelines that help dress better, thus instilling confidence. Also, the choice of clothes available today is so varied that there’s something for everyone no matter what colour, scale, height, proportion or body shape one might be.

Many designers agree, the problem with understanding body shape is that most women focus on specific areas (such as their tummy, arms, bottom, thighs etc), which can cloud one’s judgement when it comes to seeing the whole picture. But it’s important to view yourself as a whole so that you can define your ody shape. Designer Zwaan says, Playing with silhouettes elp you create an lusion. Every body ape is beautiful, ut there are some ricks you can do hat’ll help you up r fashion game. help take away the on from a broader torso and accentuate the hips and legs. An hourglass-shaped person can always opt for a fitstructured and-flare garment. Emphasising the waist, fitdresses and-flare and tops are the best silhouettes for this body type. Halter styles are best suited for the rectangle body type.”

Whatever your shape is, be it petite, curvy or voluptuous, the important factor is being confident.

Shirin Salwan, editor, The Magazine by Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, weighs in, saying, “Some of the curviest women carry bold prints with aplomb and some lean women do oversized clothing effortlessly.”

In fact, carrying an outfit with confidence is what most designers would say is at the core of styling. “I think fashion is becoming more and more democratic. With increased conversations around body positivity and inclusivity, today trends are what you make of them. No longer are women hiding behind billowy silhouettes; voluptuous style icons such as Ashley Graham, Vidya Balan, Rihanna and Serena Williams are paving the way for celebrating one’s curves unabashedly. So, whatever your body type, as long as you’re comfortable, you can rock any outfit, any time!” says Salwan. Wearing dresses with shorter hemlines and V-necklines can highlight the strengths of the body. A-line dresses and empire cuts are ideal. Monochrome and darker colours can help as well. Boyfriend shirts and dresses with high slits suit best. Neha Dhupia’s current styling works wonders for this figure.
