AKSHAY SIR’S COMPLIMENT WAS THE BEST

Actor Taapsee Pannu says what the superstar said about the trailer of her next film ‘really meant a lot to her’

There’s always been this notion about the film industry that when two actors come together for a film, especially female stars, there are bound to be some differences. ‘Who will get more screen time?’ ‘Who has the meatier part?’ are some of the questions that come to mind.

Dispelling all this however, are Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, starring together in the upcoming film Saand Ki Aankh. They will portray the real-life shooter dadis, Chandro Tomar and Prakarshi Tomar. On how she didn’t let the apprehension of sharing screen-space with another actor get to her, Taapsee says, “This film didn’t come to me, I went to it, because I wanted to do a film where two girls had equal roles. That was my driving force to do this project in the first place. It was something I wanted to do. I am happy Bhumi shared the same feeling. Also, we both had read the script, and loved our parts. We were more concerned about making the chemistry work than feeling ‘iska kya zyaada hai and iska kya kam hai’.”

Naturally, the absence of on-set rivalry translated into the two actors giving their everything to the role. “You cannot pin-point at any point in the film, that this one has got a better role than the other, because they are honestly the most crucial roles,” adds the 32year old, who was recently in the Capital, shooting for her next, titled Thappad, with Anubhav Sinha.

Transforming into characters which are more than twice their age was not easy. “Though it looks difficult, prosthetics was the easiest part. The other things were more difficult,” she says.

Saand Ki Aankh is headed for a clash with Housefull 4, which stars Akshay Kumar. And Taapsee and Akshay have been frequent co-stars, in projects such as Baby (2015) and more recently, Mission Mangal. So, it was a surprise when Taapsee reveals that Akshay was the one who gave her the best compliment after Saand Ki
