Actor Elli AvrRam says filmmakers were initially apprehensive about calling her for auditions, and it would surprise them when they saw her talk in fluent Hindi. The actor, who debuted with Mickey Virus (2013), and has been a part of projects such as Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon (2015) and Poster Boys (2017), says she proved a lot of people wrong with her auditions.

“The funny thing is that I have always been called for narrations,” she begins, “[But] for certain projects, when I heard they (makers) are auditioning, I wanted to go but wouldn’t be called for it! That hurt me as an actor. Why are people having these perceptions, not letting me come for an audition? If you want to say no, then absolutely [go ahead]. But you also might get surprised!”

One perception that people would have about her is, since she was born in Sweden, she wouldn’t know how to speak in Hindi. “All the directors I have worked with till now… I would always talk in Hindi on the sets. They hadn’t expected that. It made me happy that they acknowledged it. Even in the South movies that I am doing (Elli will be seen in the Tamil and Kannada remake of Queen; 2013), I will dub for myself! I was after my director’s life, ‘Please let me do it’. It’s a matter of having patience, knowing one day you will get to prove your talent,” she adds.

Elli is currently seen in the web series, The Verdict - State vs Nanavati, as Nanavati’s wife, which is a big shift from the glamorous roles she has done in films, earlier. The actor wants to take up different genres. “My dream is to be known as a versatile actor. There is one more [web series] I am about to sign. And the current and the next will be drastically different from each other, be it look-wise or performance wise. That’s why I wanted to be an actor. I have got that after a long time, all because I started to get a chance to audition,” says Elli.
