YOUR JUGAAD TO EVEN OUT THE ODDS?

-

The best part of odd-even is that I get to flaunt my bike. In fact, my friends had been after my life to buy a car for long now. Once I almost came under their influence, but now no more. Since the news of two-wheelers being exempted from odd-even has come in, I’m getting repeated requests for lifts from my colleagues. Some have even bought their helmets to convince me to pick and drop them off on days when they won’t be able to drive their cars. And, I’m loving all the attention I’m getting at office! But on a serious note, we have to think for our next generation and of ways to save the earth for a better future.

Mohit Dhiman, 25, marketing professional I live in Gautam Nagar and travel to Gurugram. If I book a cab, it costs me about ₹500-600 when there’s no surge. It’s good to have less traffic on road, but on days of crisis, it costs me around ₹1,0001,200. So, as we get closer to the odd-even days, I plan to save money that I will get on Diwali as shagun and spend that on my travel! These days will be tough on the pocket. Kriti Soni, 26, corporate

professional I travel 40 kilometres on one side, while going to office. And I also ensure that when my car is entering Delhi, the number matches the odd-even day because I’m exempted from the rule but my husband isn’t. And then if that battle is won, I have to think of another jugaad to visit my mother’s home. I’m in favour of odd-even since it helps to combat pollution, but travelling in public transport is an issue. Pankhuri Mahajan, 33, supply chains

professional When the odd-even policy was implemented last time, it didn’t really pass the pollution test with distinction. In fact, pollution ke level ka toh pata nahi par, Delhi mei traffic zaroor kam ho gaya tha. People worry about how to travel and what mode of transport to take. But, I’m happy ki kam se kam sadkein toh khali milengi… And to ensure that I don’t miss out on meeting my friends, we’ve already exchanged our car numbers to know who can travel in their vehicle on which day. So, I’m sorted with the odd-even mathematics.”
