It’s time to ditch your trusty Little Black Dress and embrace the tailored mini, which seems to be the new sartorial weapon in Bollywood. Of late, the likes of Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria were spotted rocking itsy-bitsy, structured coat numbers on the red carpet. Is the coat dress the new LBD?
While PeeCee picked one in satin from Versace, Ananya channelled her inner Miss Metallica in an Amit Aggarwal dress. Chanel’s Spring Summer 2020 show saw a flurry of double-breasted pocketed mini rompers at the recent Paris Fashion Week. Designer Bhaavya Bhatnagar hails them as a perfect mix of structure and femininity. “While the length makes it playful, structured shoulders and collars make for a fierce silhouette. They could be styled with over-the-knee boots and sleek hair for a bold, dramatic look, or with strappy heels and messy hair for a softer appeal,” says Bhaavya.
NEW STATEMENT LBDS
Designer Suman of the brand Lola by Suman B hails them as the new statement LBD.
“The silhouette in itself is androgynous yet feminine. Whether a double-breasted, oversized or slim fit version, it’s a style for a majority of body types You can wear them with knee-high boots, super sleek strappy stilettos or your favourite statement shoe. Messy hair or a high bun with a delicate chain strap clutch,” says Suman.

Designer Sameer Madan says this closet tool radiates the feeling of empowerment. “It’s definitely a statement-making piece. Styling it with a pair of chunky sneakers and add that dash of sports luxe. Another way to style them up is with some vintage brooches and stockings,” says Sameer.
