I’d like to carry an entire film on my shoulders

Having recently starred alongside the likes of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Farhan Akhtar for The Sky is Pink, and gearing up for his next with filmmaker Anurag Basu, actor Rohit Saraf is definitely turning quite a few heads in the industry. Asked whether he is satisfied with how his career is shaping up, he admits that things could be a lot better.

“Of course, there are bigger aspirations,’ says a frank Rohit, “You do want to, at some point in the next few years, be responsible for the whole film. I want to carry an entire film on my shoulders. But having said that, the journey so far, in the past seven years, has been more than what I expected. I am very grateful that the journey has been like this.”

Apart from Hichki (2018) and Dear Zindagi (2016), the actor has also been a part of a Norwegian film, What Will People Say (2017), which many people don’t know about.

On being asked about the same, he reveals, “Now that I am talking to the media, I am realising how similar a journey has it been for me in terms of the films I have chosen! It was not conscious, and has yet turned out the way it has. What Will People Say was a real-life story, which had happened with the director. The Sky is Pink, again, is based on a real-lifestory. The former could get dark in a lot of spaces, but the fact that she chose to go out and tell the world inspired me. I wanted to be able to associate with that film.”

The Sky is Pink, based on the life of motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary, opened to rave reviews. Though it didn’t fetch great numbers, Rohit was more than happy to be a part of the film.

“What really touched me was that every character had a journey, there was a graph for me as a performer. There was a lot of scope to perform, as it was a story about love. The perspective the film had… was something never seen or read before.”
