A multi-layered artsy rendition of life

An artistic eye could render even the mundane beautiful. Artist Sailesh Sanghvi is one such artist who converts just about anything into a piece of art. A self-taught artist, Sanghvi has been painting and drawing since childhood. However, since he was a full-time businessman, he could not pursue art with the passion he intended to. Now that he has retired, he puts his time to good use exploring new aspects of art.

“My journey in art began as an experiment. As a kid, I wanted to create something out of scrap material at home such as telephone wires, tools, metals, and with different techniques. Every object can be used in making art, and my works reflect that,” says Sanghvi, whose exhibition, in Delhi, is titled My Journey in Art.

The exhibition features a collection of abstract art and collage, and the highlight is the beautiful multi-layering.

“The uniqueness of this exhibition is multi-layering. Each piece is painted and created separately, and then pasted on the acrylic canvas, which are around six feet high. On some pieces, I have even used around 10,00012,000 elements on a single canvas. One could use a magnifying glass to observe each detail of the work,” the artist shares.

The works also take up environmental causes. “One can see three types of artworks in the exhibition. Abstract, collages on acrylic canvas, and installations. The installations highlight environmental causes such as pollution and plastic usage, while the abstract is on the viewer to understand and interpret. I believe it’s important to talk about environment al issues to spread awareness. For instance, a ceramic monkey wearing a mask in my exhibition says much about Delhi’s condition,” says Sanghvi.
