Romantic comedies are difficult I think, they wax and wane in terms of public favour. They are the kind of movies you want to get in just at the right time. I think it is the right time now for me.

Ryan Reynolds has shied away from romantic comedies in recent years and shifted focus to action comedies and thrillers. But given the bevy of romantic comedies that he has done in his career including the likes of Coming Soon (1999), The InLaws (2003), Just Friends (2005), Definitely, Maybe, Chaos Theory (both 2008) and The Proposal (2009), one can easily say his fans would want to see more of him in the genre.

And the actor assures one might happen soon. “I am looking at one right now. I also want to go back to the romantic comedy genre. I love it. Romantic comedies are difficult I think, they wax and wane in terms of public favour. They are the kind of movies you want to get in just at the right time,” he says.

The actor’s filmography has been anything but boring. Ryan has been reinventing his career, be it dabbling with different genres, playing diverse roles, getting into writing and production, even boarding the online wagon by doing a film to be out soon on Netflix, titled 6 Underground.

So, what does he consider to be the turning point in his career? “It would be when I started taking much more responsibility of my work behind the scenes as much as I would in front of it. I started to do the best I could to get involved in every aspect of filmmaking. It’s tough in a movie and when it doesn’t work you think I wish I had spoken up and I wish I had gotten more involved,” he shares.

But Ryan says he started taking more responsibility six or seven years back. “When I was younger, I didn’t feel entitled to say anything. But then I started writing, producing and being active behind the scenes and it paid off. And when I failed at something, I owned it. I wouldn’t just be an actor,” he adds.

Besides his film career, Ryan also keeps very busy in his personal life — he is the husband of actor Blake Lively and a doting father to three children. The couple worked together in the 2011 superhero film, Green Lantern but not collaborated after that. “I’d love to work with her again,” he says, adding, “We are together on every film already but just not on camera. I hope a film also happens but it has got to be the right thing,” he adds.
