What the heart seeks is what these paintings showcase

Longingness, DNA of Thoughts, Nostalgia, Passion, Strength of the Stillness are just some of the titles of artworks on display at the ongoing exhibition, Confluence. Some works seek calmness in the stillness of life, some represent meandering and some seek solace in the nostalgic memories of the past. The three streams of paintings showcased here are by artists Deepali Roongta, Nivedita Pande and Shashi Tripathi and are bound by the common thread — a passion for the art.

Tripathi, one of the artists, says, “I developed an interest in humanities, arts and creative fields while growing up. Being a woman, I understand the real strength of a woman. I found the journey of a woman very interesting and many of my works are inspired by this subject. I try to convey human emotions using body parts in meaningful compositions. My work expresses my own experience based on meeting people and travelling.”

The paintings exhibited in the show by Pande are just a glimpse of the work she has done. One of her artworks is titled Nostalgia I, oil on canvas. She says, “This painting deals with nostalgia. In my childhood I spent most of my Diwali and summer vacations with my grandparents. Sloping, redtiled roofs of houses, temples in the vicinity, a red-andyellow painted city bus that took us there and many more colourful things. The artworks bring back the memories to the child that lives in us.”

Roongta’s compositions combine the realistic and abstract forms to put across her ideas. Talking about her work, she says, “One of my works is Strength in Stillness. The idea of calming your mind may feel like an impossible feat, especially with all the stimulation that exists in the world today. I feel the strength lies in the stillness and that is what it is showcased in the artwork. My other artwork, Vivid Clusters is more than an idea. The artwork is a cluster of vivid thoughts endowed with energy.”
