Many a time, actors don’t just restrict their contribution to giving a shot in front of the camera, but also go the extra mile and give inputs to the director, hoping to add value to the narrative.

Rajkummar Rao is one such performer, who believes in doing his bit as an artist. However, the actor clarifies that he is not someone to force his suggestions, and lets the makers take the final call.

“I am in my best spirits while making a film. And it often happens that I do get a lot of ideas… I end up sharing those ideas with the director and we do get into a discussion,” he says.

The 35-year-old adds that he has often suggested the look of his character in the past, or how a shot might work better if taken in a certain way. “There have been times when I have suggested changes in the script, too. But I have never forced them on anyone. I clearly tell them that this is how I feel. But everything needs to resonate with the entire team; they need to be in agreement with me. I think filmmaking is a team effort. Everyone is expected to share their ideas and only that way we can have the best result,” shares Rajkummar.

In his latest outing, Made in China, Rajkummar’s look caught a lot of attention as his character sported a unibrow in the film. Mention this to the actor and he reveals that he wanted to have a “peculiar look”. “I wanted Raghu [his character in the film] to look different. So I began with gaining weight. Then I spoke to Mikhil (Musale; director of the film) the day before we decided the look, and discussed how Raghu would look with a unibrow. He was happy to try the look on me and it worked. Look is one department that I always experiment with in my films. That’s in a way like giving an identity to the character,” the actor adds.
