‘Versatile roles are being offered to me now, it feels I have arrived’

- Shreya Mukherjee

Divya Dutta is enjoying the “best phase” of her career, and how! She says she was termed as an underrated actor until a few years ago but things have changed now, especially after she was honoured with the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for last year’s Irada.

“I am in a happy phase in my career right now. People, who would earlier praise my work and say, ‘She is an underrated actor’, have stopped saying that. Things changed after the National Award last year… Now I am getting the characters that are written keeping me in mind; characters that add the required flavour to the plot. Thankfully, I am getting different kinds of parts,” the actor says.

“Sure, lead parts are not coming my way, but that isn’t the only thing that I wanted anyway. I look for versatile roles and they are being offered to me now… Finally, it feels that I have arrived,” says the 42-year-old, who will be seen next in Sheer Qorma, the Malala biopic, Nastik and Anubhav Sinha’s next, among others.

Since her journey started with Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna (1994), the actor shares that she still gets butterflies in her stomach when she starts working on a new project. “Even today, I am excited and tense, whenever I am approaching a new film. And I think that’s what gets me going in a way. All the projects that I have right now are quite different from one and other. In fact, in one of my films, I am doing major action sequences. That’s what makes my day… I want to do such action-packed roles,” she adds.

Apart from her films, Divya is also working on Neeraj Pandey’s web show. “That’s a very interesting project. We have started prepping for it,” she says, adding that she is also in talks for another Bollywood project.
