When air becomes the inspo for an artist’s canvas
The human body is made of the five elements of nature — air, water, earth, fire and space. And it’s one of these, air, that artist Bhaskar Singha uses to create a series of artworks. The series will now be displayed in the Capital at an exhibition titled Realms For Peace.
“Air, the all pervasive power, is the inspiration of my paintings. I think every creation is bound in a cycle which revolves everywhere in the universe as a wind,” says Singha, a graduate of the Indian College of Art, Kolkata.
Bhaskar uses the wind technique to distinguish his artworks from the rest. He explains, “I worked on this technique for over two decades, and now it comes naturally to me. I try to associate air, the intangible power, to differentiate human emotions. For example, in the mood of joy, the air flows smoothly, and if the subject on the canvas is angry, the air turns gusty.”
Through his works, the artist tries to connect with the viewers’ emotions. “I’ve gone through many phases in my artistic journey, over the years, experimenting with techniques, colours, designs, compositions and visual languages across all genres in my paintings. And I realised that in all those years I sought simple stories, simple truths and simple joys. I’ve realised that my paintings have that simple emotional connect with people. I balance space, colour, form and figures so as to achieve spiritual satisfaction,” he adds.
