After Mardaani 2, Vishal doesn’t want to rush into accepting offers
Not everyone would risk starting out their film career playing a negative character. Actor Vishal Jethwa, who successfully portrayed the role of a brutal rapist in Mardaani 2 (2019), explains why he took up the character for his launch vehicle in Bollywood.
“I never had any doubts about playing this interesting role that has so many shades. It gave me the opportunity to live different characters in one,” says Vishal adding, “Also, I was getting to work with Rani Mukerji and such a big production house. Aur mere paas waise bhi bahut saare film offers nahin the. Agar 4-5 film offer hota to choose karta bhi. So, when this came my way, I didn’t want to let it go.”
Vishal, who has been getting offers ever since the film released, says he wants to take time before signing his next. Well aware of the expectations running high on him, he hopes to live up to that.
“I don’t want to rush into accepting offers. After the positive feedback I’ve received for my debut film, I’ve been told to take time to choose my next as that also needs to be good enough. All this expectation is actually driving me to do better.” he adds.
Asked whether he would play a negative role again, Vishal says it depends on the character. Referring to the makers of Mardaani 2 and director Gopi Puthran in particular, he shares that he will discuss a project with them before saying yes to anything that comes his way. Besides, Vishal is really keen to play a historical character on the big screen. As for working on TV, the actor is clear that only if something interesting comes his way, would he consider that.
“As I always say TV gave me everything and I can’t deny that. Who would’ve known me if TV hadn’t given me my first break? I respect the medium. People in the industry work day and night, be it a simple or an intense character, everything is done in a day. So imagine how efficient people are in front of the camera and behind it, too. I feel proud to have started my journey with TV, it was like an acting school for me. I’d work on the web, but before that I want to do some good films,” he explains.
