It is an exciting phase for actor Suniel Shetty, who has his hands full with some interesting projects, and has set new goals to be fitter and healthier in 2020. The actor is planning to lose 8.5kg and also shoot this physical transformation.

“I’ll be hitting 59 this year, but it feels like I’m getting into my 20s. I feel younger,” Suniel chuckles, continuing, “I’m going to lose 8.5kg and will shoot this journey. I want to be at my leanest, lose all the fat that I have, and maintain my muscle mass. People believe that I’m fit, but I believe that there is so much more I can achieve in spite of my age. And my fitness will help me in my journey in Bollywood also — to do action films, mature roles and strong characters.”

The actor is clear to not opt for any shortcut, and will only follow natural methods in his pursuit of fitness. “I’ll be training hard and eating the right kind of food. It has a lot to do with sacrifice, the journey of waking up at 5am, no matter at whatever time you go to sleep, training for two hours a day, hitting the gym and doing a lot of functional training. Also, saying no to desserts, reducing salt intake, measuring your meal with the eyes and staying away from fried stuff as much as possible,” he says.

While following a stringent routine isn’t easy, all it takes, according to Suniel, is a disciplined lifestyle which he has been keeping for quite some time now. He says, “When you’re disciplined, it takes a lot from you and can also get boring. I’ve got a strong control over myself and don’t drink or smoke. Thus, I don’t fit into a lot of groups when I go to parties. I just drink water there, and eat something before heading for dinner at someone’s place because you want to eat at the right time.”

Given that everyone in Bollywood these days wants to have a certain type of body and flaunt their six packs, Suniel points out how it has become a trend.

“Every kid in the industry is beating themselves to achieve fitness. Today’s actors are doing everything to get six-pack bodies and are using external measures, but the key is to keep it natural and maintain it at whatever age you are at. You see bodybuilders, who were once beauty pageants and models, today they are nowhere. They have developed pot bellies, muscle issues, kidney failures and injuries. Mine is an absolute 100% pure body (without steroids). For the physical beauty, I’ve not harmed my internals. That’s the advantage I hold.”
