DITCH YOUR FOUNDATION FOR BB CREAM
Beauty benefit creams mean business. Here’s what makes them a star beauty product
BB creams — short for beauty balm or blemish balm — are not new for the Indian beauty market. They were launched a few years ago and their fan base keeps expanding steadily.
While most of the top skincare brands now have BB creams suited for different skin types, some have created BB creams specially suited for men.
A PACKAGED DEAL
What makes the product so likeable? As beauty expert Purnima Goyal puts it, “Blemish balms mean business. They help deal with multiple beauty woes while making your skin look better. A BB cream acts as a primer to even out your complexion, and conceal redness and imperfections.
Now that’s what your average concealer should do. But BB cream, as the name suggests, also comes packed with antiageing ingredients such as vitamin A, E and C, peptides and hyaluronic acid, which protect your skin from sun damage, ageing and help reveal a smoother and brighter complexion.”
“A BB cream is a sort of one in all solution as it would give you coverage, along with protection and care, in one product. If you choose the right BB cream, one with moisturising properties, antioxidants and a good SPF, you don’t really need much more. BB creams may also counter breakouts as they are oil free and protect your skin from pollution,” says dermatologist Rajat Kandhari.
NO FUSS SKINCARE
Another good thing about BB creams is that they are much lighter than usual foundations and provide a natural sheer coverage. They are also pretty easy to use as they blend without any fuss. Foundation, on the other hand, tends to be heavier, so it can cause caking and flaking on the skin, says dermatologist Kiran Lohia.
Foundations are more likely to obstruct your pores. The heavier the coverage the more likely you are to get acne. With new nanotechnology, it’s even harder to get rid of the traces, explains Lohia.
So, save your foundation for special occasions and switch to a good BB cream if a smooth, natural looking, healthy complexion is what you want.
