Being an outsider, actor Pankhuri Awasthy didn’t have much on her plate to choose from when she started out. However, the 28-year-old actor looks at the brighter side of it and feels happy that people didn’t know her much, thus giving her the option to try out everything that came her way. And that’s what kept the actor from getting stereotyped.

“I was too new to make a choice and would take up whatever offer that felt right. At that time also, there were discussions about actors getting typecast on TV. I had it going on in my mind until I brushed that aside thinking I’ve just started out,” Pankhuri recalls.

The actor rose to fame with the TV show Razia Sultan, where she portrayed the eponymous character. Looking back at her six-yearlong journey on TV, Pankhuri feels blessed that she got to be part of shows that all belonged to different genres.

“My first major role was the historical show Razia Sultan, and then I did Kya Qusoor Hai Amala Ka which dealt with the issue of rape and then with Kaun Hai?, I explored the horror genre, too. And now, in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, my character has got negative shades. In fact, the character started out as a positive one, but for the required twist, the makers decided to give it grey shades,” she shares. And with these shows, Pankhuri also got to play characters that were extremely different.

“I feel lucky that all my shows have been different and I won’t say I consciously chose them to avoid repetition, the idea is to tell fascinating stories,” says the actor who is all set to make her Bollywood debut.
