Pooja Banerjee had a nearfatal fall on the sets of dance show Nach Baliye last September and the actor’s hands were badly injured. While she is recovering, she confesses the injuries did affect her emotionally too. Pooja shares it took her some time to get back to life. Among other things, she realised “her real friends” and the “importance of continuing working”.

She says, “I was on complete bed rest when I decided to get back to work. Ekta [Kapoor] asked me whether I’ll be able to shoot, and I said yes, because I was missing going to work. The entire team accommodated me. From someone who’d be chirpy and happy on the set, I was quiet. Imagine I couldn’t button my own shirt, eat, go to the washroom alone; my life completely changed.”

The 29-year-old shares that her journey to recovery began when she started accepting her condition. “A lot of times we tend to behave as if everything is fine. I think if you aren’t feeling good, there’s no harm in expressing the same,” she says. “I would tell people, listen, ‘I might snap or not talk but I hope you would understand’. They did and would constantly keep a check on me to ensure I don’t fall or hurt myself,” says Pooja, grateful to have a partner like Sandeep Sejwal, who has her back, always.

Sandeep is a professional swimmer and Pooja was also into the sport till she found her calling in the performing arts. “I’ve started swimming under Sandeep’s guidance. There was a time when I’d just talk to him and not anyone else in the family. He deals with my mood swings and understands me,” she adds.
