I feel stereotyped playing perfect, positive roles: Aishwarya Sakhuja

Always looking out to do challenging roles onscreen, actor Aishwarya Sakhuja has often taken short breaks from doing fiction shows. And during that gap, she took up non-fiction shows and was seen in a small role in the 2019 film Ujda Chaman. The actor states that it is the love for her craft that drives her more than anything else.

That’s the reason she decided to play a negative role in her ongoing show, and says that she is “having super fun” in doing something she has never done before.

“The fear of what new I can do on TV has been haunting me, given that in the last nine years, I feel stereotyped playing those ‘perfect, positive’ characters. So when the makers had the conviction that I can play a negative role, I took it up as a challenge,” shares the actor.

Aishwarya further points out that she is well aware of instances where negative characters get sidelined as the plot moves ahead.

“This character is the negative lead and in no way losing importance anytime soon. Now, without thinking if I would be typecast in playing negative roles, I am just concentrating on my character,” the actor shares.

Aishwarya, who rose to fame with the TV show Saas Bina Sasural, shares that at times she would get bothered thinking that whether audiences would accept her or not, but she is grateful that she received positive feedback.

However, there’s one person who doesn’t really want to watch her in this negative avatar and that’s her husband, Rohit Nag. While he encouraged her to try out something new, he’s not keen on seeing her being so evil on screen. “Rohit is like ‘main tujhe aise nahin dekh sakta, tu aise nahin ho sakti’,” laughs Aishwarya, adding how her better half plays an important part in her life and career.

“I always discuss with him before I decide to do something new in my life. I do that even before going for auditions.

When I had got my first big break with Saas

Bina Sasural, it was Rohit with whom I discussed the project first. Though the final decision is mine, I trust his instinct. He has been extremely supportive and usually watches my performances onscreen,”

she shares.
