ADNAN SAMI SINGER

Singer-composer Adnan Sami has created a niche for himself, so much so that he continues to be a favourite, despite not being very active in the music scene. 2020 has begun on a good note for his fans, as he has made his comeback with the single, Tu Yaad Aaya.

What prompted him to return to the music world? He says, “The thing is, Bhushan Kumar (producer and music label owner) and I go back 20 years and have a wonderful relationship. Also, we are neighbours and bump into each other constantly. We discussed that we need to work on something. We’ve had a great innings together in the past, so we decided whenever we do come back together, it has to be something special. So over the past few months, I decided ‘bahut araam ho gaya, ab kaam pe lago (laughs)’.”

However, it wasn’t easy to decide what they wanted to do. He reveals, “We started having sessions with lots of music and melodies. We had shortlisted some lovely ones...but the question was, ‘what does one open with?’ There were a whole bunch of possibilities, as each one was a great song, but we would say, ‘this can be second, third’. Then, we zeroed in on Tu Yaad Aaya,” he shares.

The music video of this romantic number, which was released on YouTube on February 11, has garnered 10 million views so far. The 46year-old says, “The kind of flavour we have brought in the music is very contemporary, and yet, I have sprinkled a bit of Indian magical dust. That’s something I have always had in my kind and style of music. Music must always evolve, be contemporary, but have elements of our tradition. You can have lasagna, but you want dal chawal daily!”
