Actor Yami Gautam, who has made a name for herself with movies such as Vicky Donor (2012), Kaabil (2017) and more recently Bala (2019), is quite upbeat about her fitness and in this tete a tete, the actor spills the beans about her fitness regime and diet pattern. Excerpts from an interview:

What is the one breakfast food that you must have?

I love having eggs for breakfast. They are high on protein and also make for a solid meal to start the day with. And the best part is that you can cook so many varieties.

One fattening food item that you just can’t resist?

It has to be pizza. How can anyone even resist pizza? I can’t hold back from indulging.

How do you get back in shape post a fattening indulgence? Indulgence doesn’t harm if it’s once in a while, but getting your daily dose of cardio [exercise] is a must if you know you have over indulged. It always helps in coming back to shape and keeping you healthy.

Do you prefer mini meals? What do they normally contain?

Not exactly. My day starts with a hearty breakfast, and then I have a fruit. Then I have lunch and some home-made cookies, which are baked by me, and tea. This is followed by either soup or dal chilla.

What is a diet plan that always works for you?

A balanced diet and nothing extreme is always healthy. I like to maintain a balance and not go to any extreme lengths in my meal plans or exercises.

Do you work out at home? What are the exercises you follow?

I prefer having a more professional atmosphere when I workout. So, I do Pilates or yoga at the studios. It keeps me on my toes and more focused.

Do you prefer outdoor or indoor physical activities?

I love taking long brisk walks and doing functional cardio outside. Working out outdoors is very healthy. It also in a way keeps me connected with nature.
