Why Gulshan Devaiah gravitates towards twisted ideas
Be it Shaitan (2011), Hunterrr (2015) or Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2019), actor Gulshan Devaiah has been a part of unique narratives in Bollywood, and has created a sort of niche for himself. And the actor is happy that movies with different themes and narratives are now resonating well with the audience. According to a source close to Gulshan, the reason behind his quirky choice of films is his idea of exploring his range as an actor.
Gulshan says, “I won’t deny that I’ve always gravitated towards twisted ideas and unique concepts. What really makes my mind tick is investing completely in a character. When Hunterrr first came to me, I was told that it was a film hard to cast because many had turned it down for various reasons.” But, the actor is glad he said “yes” to the adult comedy in which he plays a sex addict, because it took on an “interesting subject” and the makers were able to deliver it with “all honesty”.
“People till date recognise me from that film. There was also Mard Ko Dard... last year and in that double role, many of our audiences saw the Jimmy/Mani track as another film within a film. The twins were a ball to play and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience,” he adds.
Gulshan says he’ll continue to look out for movies that are quirky and nothing like he’d have seen before. “I mostly choose with my gut feeling, and it’s a good thing that it’s working in 2020 and such choices are celebrated,” he adds.
