Showbiz is all about numbers, feels Sonnalli

Nine years in the industry and seven films later, the one thing that actor Sonnalli Seygall has realised in her career is that box office numbers do matter, even if she doesn’t want to base everything on them.

We probe what makes her say that. “Numbers speak, it is about that. It’s really not about how much effort you put in the role, or how much hard work you put in. Eventually, the film has to do well. Whether you are good or bad, it automatically pushes your career,” she explains.

The 30-year-old goes on to say, “There could be a great performance by someone really talented in a film that bombed, or an average performance by someone in a blockbuster. The career of the latter is going to go ahead.”

Thus Sonnalli, who was last seen in Jai Mummy Di alongside Sunny Singh, doesn’t want her hard work to be “wasted”. “I want it to do numbers. I know they are important,” she says.

In that sense, does Sonnalli have any regrets about the choices she has made so far? She says, “No, I don’t regret my choices, because I knew what my options were. I made the best choice. I have regrets in some, maybe in the way my role was cut off, those kind of regrets. But that’s something which is not in my control. It was in the hands of other people. In Setters (2019), I thought my portions were not there, maybe they could have kept it.”

It’s really not about how much effort you put in the role, or how much hard work you put in. Eventually, the film has to do well.
