'THERE IS NO FOMO, THERE IS ALWAYS JOMO'

Sanya Malhotra is steadily building an interesting filmography. The actor’s choice of films since her debut with Dangal (2016) — including rustic tale Pataakha and quirky comedy Badhaai Ho (both in 2018) and niche love story Photograph (2019) — says a lot about her process. Yet, she says she still “feels like a new entrant” into this world.

“There’s so much to learn. I still have my moments of selfdoubt...” she says, excited about how 2020 is turning out for her. Apart from three films lined up for release, she has a few more movie and web offers.

Sanya shares how enthusiastic her fans, family, and friends are that they would be seeing so much of her on screen this year. “My family is the most excited. Unke liye har ek film maano jaise meri pehli film hai,” she says.

If she is busy shooting backto-back, isn’t she missing being a part of the party circuit? “Not really. I’m actually a socially awkward person. So, there’s no FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), there’s always JOMO (Joy of Missing Out),” Sanya shares with a laugh.

“Par party karna achha lagta hai kabhi kabhi, aur kar bhi lenge. Abhi bahut kaam hai. Right now the focus is to lead a disciplined life. Last seven months, and even the next few months, are really busy. I don’t have much time... Some of these parties are so much fun,” adds the actor, who turns 28 today.

Sanya reveals that finally her dream of having a working birthday is getting fulfilled this year. She is in Dubai for work, where she also intends to do a lot of shopping. A birthday party was also being planned, but the actor shares “it seems that won’t be possible”.

“I always work around my birthdays but the actual day of my birthday would be an off and I’d always crib about it. But this year, I’m happy to be working,” she says, adding how different she was as a kid when it came to birthdays.

“I’d look forward to my birthday party and invite everyone in school. I was a shy little kid, but on my birthdays, I’d turn into a mean person. I would decide who will dance, koi randomly nahin ja sakta tha dance floor pe. No one was allowed to enter without gifts. I remember a friend had come without any gift and I said to her face, ‘Bina gift ke birthday mein kaun aata hain?’” she laughs.
