My biggest aspiration is to sing for my own film: Shirley Setia

Taking a giant leap from being a popular singer to now acting, Shirley Setia is all excited about stepping into showbiz with her web film, Maska, and movie, Nikamma, which also stars Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Abhimanyu Dassani. Given her schedule, music took a step back in 2019 as she channelised all her efforts towards acting.

“Last year went by shooting back-to-back for the film and web project and I couldn’t work on my music. I don’t regret putting my singing on the backseat, because both are creatively demanding and you can’t be in two different mindsets. My parents have always told me to focus on one thing at a time, work whole-heartedly and enjoy the process. So, I thought to stick to one,” Shirley explains.

A YouTube sensation with songs such as Koi Shor, Thode Se Hum, and Tu Mil Gaya in her kitty, Shirley moved to Mumbai in 2016 to pursue her career, and since then, there’s been no looking back. With a busy schedule at hand, does the actor get time to practice her music? She says, “Whenever I get time, I get back to singing and it gives me a good break from acting. I’m working on a couple of singles which will be out soon.”

The 24-year-old adds, “But, my biggest aspiration is to sing for my own film and hopefully, it will happen soon.”

The only work mantra she follows is, “I consider myself as competition and keep working on myself. And that will give me a lot of joy to work. I want to make that my goal to work towards. Just keep working hard, doing my work and making myself better.”

Whenever I get time, I get back to singing and it gives me a good break from acting. I’m working on a couple of singles which will be out soon.
