WHEN BENNY DAYAL’S DIL WENT BADTAMEEZ
The singer rocked Anugoonj, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University’s fest
Adark stage, a packed ground of eager youngsters, and a voice that tore through the silence, saying, ‘IPU, ILU (Indraprastha University, I love You)!’ And, that was enough to send the students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University into a frenzy as playback singer Benny Dayal took the stage to perform at their annual fest, Anugoonj.
Benny, who reached the venue an hour late, made up for the lost time with back-to-back hits. Besides expressing his love to the crowd, which reciprocated with similar energy, if not more, Benny also broke into an occasional dance.
The girls begged Benny to sing Badtameez Dil (from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani; 2013), and he said “keep your tadaap alive” while shifting to sing Nashe Si Chadh Gayi even when the musicians played the prelude of the former song. He even posed for the crowd and asked, “Insta pe dal diya na?” Aditi Aggarwal, a student dancing to his songs, gushed, “He is the highlight of today’s event. I love his music.”
The 21st edition of the three-day annual fest saw a number of cultural activities. The street play competition had performances based on the theme of communal harmony, and the folk dance competition saw some bhangra moves. A kavi sammelan was also organised as part of the event.
Another highlight was Punjabi singer Guri, who sang his groovy numbers such as Mill Lo Na, Nira Ishq, and Sone Diya Waliyan. Even members of Sankraman band won hearts with their rendition of popular Bollywood hits.
