From playing a comic character in the Dhamaal franchise, stepping into the grey area in the TV show Beyhadh 2, to having a tryst with a stunt based reality show, actor Ashish Chowdhry has left no stone unturned to continue experimenting on the work front. And playing such diverse roles in the last 25 years, he says, has been no less than a “big gamble”.

The actor elaborates, “It was a conscious decision to do characters and projects, which would take me beyond what I did last. I was doing multistarrer movies and mainly comedies. When you play a powerful character, it overshadows everything else you do,” adding, “I’ve been around for a while and I felt I was becoming stagnant, thus I gambled by experimenting with diverse roles.”

The 41-year-old says even though he’s grateful that the Dhamaal franchise made his character, Boman, quite memorable, he admits that it also typecasted him as he was offered similar kind of roles.

And the actor shares it was his roles on TV that helped him dissolve the typecast.

“TV is more about the character than the actor. It has been a blessing in that case; it helped me explore more. And everything that I’ve done on TV has turned out really well for me. That’s why I take my own sweet time in doing movies,” Chowdhry says.

The actor, who plays an aged character in a TV show , says that at a time when people hesitated in taking up such roles, he took the opportunity as an experiment. He asserts it’s not the age but “stepping into a space what people don’t expect you to” that matters.
